Kate Quinn does it again. She absolutely knocked it out of the park. Ever since the first time I picked up one of her books, I have anticipated reading more and was very excited when she released “The Rose Code.” The book is phenomenally well-written and an exciting and captivating story that did not disappoint.
“The Rose Code” is an historical fiction novel that explores the World War II codebreakers at Bletchley Park and most specifically three women, Mab Churt, Osla Kendall, and Beth Finch, from three very different walks of life who, under normal circumstances, probably would never have become friends. But through Bletchley Park and their war-changing code breaking work there, they became unstoppable.
Kate Quinn does an exceptional job with character development of not only Mab, Osla and Beth but other key players in the book. She seamlessly weaves their lives and stories together and even throws in a few twists and turns. While within the genre of historical fiction, this book explores a factual and fascinating piece of World War II history - the codebreakers at Bletchley Park who made a positive impact on the outcome of World War II. This is a part of WWII history that may not be well-known to most (I had no idea!) but one that is absolutely fascinating to learn about, and the way Kate Quinn penned it within the pages of this book is masterful.
“The Rose Code” is a beautiful tale of friendship, resilience, secrets, overcoming and triumph. I found myself shocked, saddened, cheering, angry and overjoyed at various points throughout the book. This one of those reads that you cannot wait to see how it ends, but at the same time, wish you could go back and read it for the first time. It is an excellent read that I highly recommend!
